Industry supports AORN by providing technologies, products, and information services that will help reduce the number of medical errors and complications that occur each year. Industry partners also provide education, research and financial support to promote and support surgical patient safety.
AORN’s commitment to patient safety is far reaching. AORN provides clinical consultation with AORN's Perioperative Nurse Specialists. As an associate member of AORN, industry may also gain access to experts as a member benefit.
AORN partners with industry and members of the Council on Surgical and Perioperative Patient Safety to provide education to all members of the surgical team, risk managers, hospital executives, nurse executives, surgeons, anesthesiologists and industry executives. The annual Executive Symposium on Surgical Patient Safety provides a high-level forum to discuss issues that will drive healthcare, surgical services and patient safety.

AORN’s OR Protocol course prepares healthcare industry sales representatives visiting operating rooms at healthcare facilities. Many regulatory agencies and professional organizations are paying attention to how healthcare facilities handle sales representatives in the OR. The AORN OR Protocol course is based largely on AORN’s position statement on “The Role of the Health Care Industry Representative in the Operating Room” from its 2004 Standards, Recommended Practices and Guidelines.
